Funeral for The Honourable Dr. Marilyn Trenholme Counsell, O.C, O.N.B (’54, LLD ’00)
The Honourable Dr. Marilyn Trenholme Counsell, former Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick, Senator, and Officer of the Order of Canada, was an advocate, and leader who dedicated her life to serving her community, province, and country. She passed away at the age of 92, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to shape generations.
A state funeral is planned to honour and celebrate her life.
The funeral, which will be open to the public, will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 26 in the Marjorie Young Bell Convocation Hall at °®¶¹´«Ã½app, 37 York St., Sackville.
A reception will follow at the University’s Purdy Crawford Centre for the Arts, 152 Main St.
Members of the public wishing to express condolences may do so by signing the condolence book online at the Government of New Brunswick website.
Flags at all provincial government buildings have been placed at half-mast until sunset on the day of the funeral.

The funeral and reception are open to the general public and all are welcome to attend. Faculty and staff are encouraged to be part of the procession. Please RSVP to rsvp@mta.ca by Thursday, June 25 if you would like to join the procession.
Parking
Parking on campus will be limited. Please be advised that the Convocation Hall parking lot and the Dunn parking lot will be closed for the entire day on Friday for the service. Staff are encouraged to park in the King St. and Thornton/Edwards parking lot.
In addition, York St. in front of the University (between Salem St. and Lansdowne St.) will be closed from 12-4 p.m. Traffic disruptions in the area should be expected during this time.
